I spent six or seven hours to hang curtain rods I’m no good at that kind of thing I gathered together many bundles of cut up cardboard boxes That some new furniture was delivered in But my neighbors had already completely filled the recycling bins (Recycling bins) I walked down the street to see Guadalupe Rivera Marín speak (Recycling bins) At The Bravo (Recycling bins) I had on my freshly-pressed white shirt from Banana Republic (Recycling bins) But felt totally outclassed The woman next to me looked through her pink-framed glasses and asked me If I paid for my ticket, I said yes I did She said hers were free, and showed me an enormous gold chain And she said, "Guadalupe gave this to me" Her hands shook as she took a photo Of Guadalupe Rivera Marín on the stage She was polite and friendly in her Oaxacan-style dress Her husband wasn’t paying much attention The translator had some technical difficulties And the crowd wasn’t very forgiving I guess that’s what you get watching a bunch of rich folks diss on a volunteer organization Guadalupe told the story in Spanish Of holding her father in her arms Moments before he passed away Even in her 90s after years of recounting the story, she became emotional on the stage Even as her translator struggled through technical difficulties (Tahoe Blue) I felt a little lost and skipped the cocktail reception (Tahoe Blue) And picked up a burrito from El Farolito (Tahoe Blue) And called my dad to wish him a happy Father’s Day (Tahoe Blue) Then I went home and picked up my Paul Reed Smith guitar It's Tahoe Blue (Tahoe Blue) And I wrote some parts that day "Stephen Hawking's Voice Will Beam Into Space Following Memorial Service The Vangelis-scored recording will be transmitted toward nearest black hole following the Westminster Abbey ceremony" Some day I’ll walk alone But before that day comes I'll be sure to tell my dad How much he means to me It would take you ten minutes to hang those curtain rods, Dad I love that about you—you're good to have around There's a lot of bad things happening in the world today I was just in Barcelona, we were boarding when I read the news Anthony Bourdain hung himself In a five-star hotel And Asia Argento’s tears are streaming down her face on Instagram Eric Ripert is keeping up appearances The world sure has less patience than it used to, doesn’t it? I just called my dad and wished him "happy Father's Day" (Closing at five) He was picking up a lawnmower that was out for repairs (Closing at five) He said he's gotta keep the conversation short - it's four o'clock, and the place closes at five (Closing at five) And it makes me so happy I can call my dad on the phone (Closing at five) Some day I know you will leave us Now I gotta write more words to this song We broke for lunch and enjoyed the sun At Old Jerusalem The guy already knew our order And it makes me so happy to live where I do In San Francisco, and the sun is out and yes the sky is blue And I can pick up the phone and call my dad And talk about guitars all afternoon
