about

What a day today
This afternoon the licensed contractor came
He took notes as we walked about and talked about bathrooms and window panes
And ventilation and energy efficiency

And about the hole in the ceiling
that was substantially leaking
The leak was caused by my upstairs neighbor
as she let the bathtub drain

Taking a bath is generally supposed to be relaxing
And I think we were both surprised and totally not relaxed to see
just how much water
came through the leak

Moments after we arrived
In this totally empty full-flat condo
that my girlfriend literally had just got
the keys to

What a day today
The doorbell just rang my dad just sent some beautiful flowers with a note, "Congratulations”
It’s cloudy and my Lyft driver said the weather’s not like LA
I said yeah when you wanna eat outside the rain’s not so great
He said he liked pools and barbecues, and that as a child to San Francisco from Guatemala he had escaped
Heading home from Dr. Knee’s office
He hoped everything was okay
And we talked about the Mission neighborhood and it’s many changes
And how the elderly are being evicted from their places

It’s a nice day (It's a nice day)
despite the clouds
and despite the rain

It’s a nice day (It's a nice day)
in my new neighborhood
I’m staying

Last night I dreamed of ceramics
And bass guitar strings, I put felt on them just like Carol Kaye
This morning I sat in this victorian parlor
And so pulled out my parlor guitar

And looked at tickets to see John Prine
at the Warfield in May
Wouldn’t you know it for Modest Mouse and two hundred bucks
I had already saved the date

My parlor guitar was sold to me by
John Prine’s old guitar tech
It has a good sound and it was made in Quebec (made in Quebec)
He fixed it up perfectly for my odd tunings and put a heavier gauge of strings on it

He told me to play it loud (play it loud)
And offered to give me his microphone case
As long as I let him hear what I made with them
But I never made it back as my mother’s health declined in step with his

What a day today (what a day)
I need to learn how to take care of this beautiful orchid, it’s making the whole house smell great
The gas fireplace might be fake but it’s warm and it's nice
I got lots to unpack for my session tomorrow with Sami Perez
I’m going to try to get her to play bass and sing, I hope she says "yes" (yes, yes, yes, I'll sing)

It’s a nice day (nice day)
despite the clouds
and despite the rain

It’s a nice day (it's a nice day)

It’s a nice day (it's a nice day)
magnolia tree out the window
will bloom soon

It’s a nice day
It’s a nice day

Canada is a great place with nice people in it
I don’t think I know of anyone who actually moved there after the election
Vancouver Island is a beautiful place if you don’t mind a little rain
they have a good thing going on in Canada

I wonder if I’ll ever make it back to Nova Scotia
Or if the rest of my family forgot about me
In 60 years I’ll probably still be here in San Francisco
